Do vacations stress you out? 🍦🍕🍷
Hi ,
I recently got back from a family vacation in Lake of the Ozarks. It was a restful, rejuvenating vacation because my kids are finally at ages where it felt like a legit vacation rather than parenting in another place.
Vacations used to stress me out — but it wasn’t just because of all the diapers, pacifiers, plus managing the chaos that tends to come with interfering with a young child’s routine.
It was also because of the food.
For me, the prospect of a vacation — particularly the kind that involved swimsuit wearing — was a first-class ticket on the express train to CrazyTown.
For weeks (or even months) in advance, I'd obsess about what to eat and what not to eat, imagining how it might impact the way I'd look in the swimsuit. Then there was the vacation itself; I'd be consumed with the urge to eat all the yummy foods I'd tried to deny myself and guilt over the prospect of "ruining" my hard work.
I don’t stress out anymore about vacations anymore…
If you want to be more present on vacations but you’re not sure how to get there, I’d love to help. Learn more about my 1:1 coaching and schedule a free discovery here.
xo,
Want to learn more about intuitive eating?
I’m making something for you! It’s a series of podcast episodes in which I break down everything you need to know about intuitive eating. They’re bite-sized, informative, and according to at least one listener, completely necessary. (See below.) I’ll be adding an episode about once a month.
Not a Spotify user? NBD. You can download the episodes I’ve published so far using any podcast app you want below:
4 Things worth checking out
If you have an hour: What if ditching dieting and perfectionism means gaining weight? Food freedom, mindset coach, and fitness professional Kim Basler gets really real (as in make sure you have a tissue real), as we explore this question (and SO many others) in our Real Fit interview. (tw: suicidal thoughts).
If you five minutes: Kudos to Swim England for banning weigh-ins for young swimmers.
If you have 10 minutes: It’s good to see binge eating disorder getting some coverage in the New York Times.
If you need a good book: I tore through Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld (one of my all-time favorite authors) in three sittings. I love that she included believable, nuanced conversations about food and body image in the novel.
I’ve been a guest on several podcasts lately…
I was honored to be on a panel of dynamic health and fitness experts on the Do The Thing Podcast with Stacey Lauren. I can promise you’ll be inspired to take some action toward a fitness goal after listening but be warned: I can also promise I’m the only one of the six panelists not promoting weight loss.
Chardet Ryel invited me on the Feel Good Nakd podcast and told me enjoyed our conversation so much, she broke our call into TWO EPISODES, which she seldom does! Woo hoo!
The Soul Connection Duo just published Making Peace With Food, Our Bodies, and Exercise, where I share my journey with intuitive eating.
